“Here I Am”
In Genesis 22, God tests Abraham’s trust and obedience when he asks Abraham to sacrifice his long-awaited, beloved, only son. Can you imagine God’s asking you to kill your treasured child and responding with Abraham’s composure? “God you are crazy to ask this of me” would seem a reasonable response, but Abraham simply says, “Here I am.”
When God calls me to do something in the everyday, whether it’s fun or challenging, what is my response to him? Do I say, “I need to do ___ first,” or “OK, but give me a glimpse of the future first”? Or do I just trust him? God has already provided the sacrificial “ram” of Jesus Christ; we can follow him in confidence.
