“Are You for Me or Against Me?”
You know those days when someone lets you down, or things don’t go as you had planned? Our indignation cries, “Why isn’t so-and-so doing what I need them to? Why can’t my plan work the way I thought it needs to? The way this is happening isn’t good for me!” Our frustration, however justified, can lead us to focus on self. Our cries to God become the question, “Are you for me and my plans, or against me?” Joshua also asks this question (Joshua 5:13-15).
Perhaps some better questions for Joshua (and us) to ask are, “God, am I on your side today? Am I going to jump into what you’re doing?” This is God’s gig, and we get to be a part of it!
